The Inn
The Bass Cottage Inn is both central and serene, a private retreat located in the heart of Bar Harbor on a quiet lane near Frenchman Bay and the Town Pier. Location is one of our biggest assets. It’s a peaceful setting, but a very short walk to shops, restaurants, galleries and waterfront activities, and only a 5-minute drive from Acadia National Park.
The Inn was built in 1885 during Bar Harbor’s Golden Age and purchased soon after by the Bass family as a summer “cottage.” Like many visitors during that era, the Bass family came to escape the summer heat and bustle of the city, to enjoy the calm forests and salt air of Acadia. In 2003, this historic cottage was purchased and rescued from the wrecking ball. An extensive renovation was performed to meet the needs of today’s discerning traveler.
Today, the Bass Cottage Inn — Bar Harbor’s oldest continuously operating inn — welcomes guests who come to enjoy Bar Harbor and Acadia for exactly the same reasons the Bass family came almost 130 years ago.
